Nicosia within the walls

Eleven hearts in the heart of Nicosia

The new walls were circular and from above they seem to be a star shape and the bastions were designed in the shape of a heart. According to Savorniano, this figure allowed better use of cannons and better control of the city by the defenders. For their name, the architect chose to give the names of his family who financed their construction. Thus, the Venice official class was immortal in the walls of Nicosia.
