Bios
Nicos Philippou is a photographer with a strong interest in the Cypriot vernacular, topography, and material culture. His work has been shown in exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad, among them Sense of Place: European Landscape Photography at BOZAR, Brussels (2012), Terra Mediterranea - In Crisis at NiMAC, Nicosia (2012), The PhotoBook Exhibition at Benaki Museum, Athens (2015), and his solo show Shargi at NiMAC, Nicosia (2016). He co-curated Re-envisioning Cyprus (2010) and co-edited the volume of the same title. He is also the co-editor of Photography and Cyprus: Time, Place, Identity (2014). Nicos is also a lecturer at the Communications Department of the University of Nicosia.
Katharina Diem is a creative mind with a passion for visual storytelling. A lover of detail and a challenge seeker. She is currently a Master's student in Communication, Media, Sound and Interaction Design. Katharina is from Austria and is studying, working and living in different countries and cultures.
Erin Horne is a Documentary Photography student at Plymouth University, and is currently studying at University of Nicosia, Cyprus. She has also completed a foundation degree in Art and Design, as well as A-Levels in Photography, and Graphic Design. Her interests and inspirations lie with The New Topographics, and archival photography.
Theodosia Italou is a BA in Journalism Student at the University of Nicosia. Her interests include drawing, playing the piano and travel photography. She is very sensitive on environmental issues and loves nature.
Sophy Markova was born and raised in Nicosia, Cyprus and she is an undergraduate student at UNIC studying Digital Communications and Mass Media. She is also working at a digital marketing agency in their social media department.
Clarissa Schembri is Maltese and has been living in Limassol for the last 2 years. She worked in the media industry for more than 8 years. Clarissa presented and produced various TV programs. She was also one of the newscasters of a Maltese political TV station. Her main interests are politics, journalism and football.
Maria Shiakalli studies Communications at the University of Nicosia, majoring in Journalism. Apart from creating journal articles, she is also very interested in literature, creative writing and reading.
She has attended seminars in Cyprus and Strasburg on the European Union. She also likes volunteering and has been actively engaged in charity over the last 3 years.
Léna Le Tessier is a French student who completed her third year of Communication Studies in Cyprus as an Erasmus student. In the last two years of her studies she decided to specialize in the filmmaking industry in Paris. Being an animal lover and passionate for photography, she combined both in this photographic project.
Holly Watson is a Photography student from Winchester, England. She has previous experience in customer service, operational accounting and as a photographer's assistant. Holly is currently studying for a degree at the University of Plymouth and hopes to pursue a career in wildlife photography.
